RTI Innovation Advisors receives EPA funding for recycling projects in the Great Lakes Region
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded RTI International and the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) funding to support Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) projects in Ohio. Sustainable Materials Management is a systemic approach to use and reuse materials through a product’s entire life cycle to reduce environmental impacts, conserve resources, and reduce costs.
In collaboration with an RTI International team and the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio, RTI Innovation Advisors is helping the SWA increase municipal collaboration and support within the plastics recycling industry. Our team will be using our innovation ecosystem framework, which is designed to address complex systemic problems.
The framework will be applied to help establish a plastic recycling industry cluster in the Ohio River Valley. Our focus includes engaging relevant stakeholders, collecting data and information, creating a stakeholder map, assessing the technical, economic, and environmental potential of the industries, and augmenting the stakeholder conversations with additional research.
